Science, stories, and the trust we build—or break—along the way

Welcome to Trust? Trust! Trust. Where we examine one of the most powerful forces shaping our world today: trust…or the lack of it!

In each newsletter—and in the upcoming podcast—we use a different lens to tackle a question at the heart of modern life: what do we trust, and how does that impact how we trust science?

We’ll explore the people, processes, pressures and stories behind scientific trust—how it forms, how it fractures, and how it can be strengthened. And as we do, we’ll explore what trust writ large can teach us about trust in science: with questions such as: Why is trust in general eroding? What’s fueling polarization? Could rebuilding transparency and trust in evidence—not opinion—help rebuild trust across society?

As we hope you’ll see, we believe science is where trust is built through evidence, transparency, and examination. From public health to climate, government to technology, New Year’s resolutions to allergies, and agriculture to the food we eat, regardless where we live in the world, trust in science–or lack of it–has become a mirror reflecting our broader struggles with believing experts, institutions, and even one another.

So whether you are a scientist, someone curious about science, a student, an educator or a science skeptic, if you’ve ever wondered, ”Why is trust so complicated today?” or “Can I trust science and scientists?” you’re in exactly the right place.
